Australia, 2016

Written by Eva Barnsley

12 months had finally passed and I was sitting on a plane again, on my way home. The thought of the clear blue skies that appeared to stretch on forever tickled the hairs of my neck.

Landing in my home town seemed so surreal, the chill of a rural country winter quickly seeped past my thin layers and my heart raced on the arrival of friends and family to pick us up.
As the entire trip stretched on for just a day less than a month, not every moment will be encountered on this post.
The real adventures began after a four hour drive to the beach. The sun was out and those clear skies stood before me. The sand squeeked under my feet and the cold ocean skimmed the bottoms of my jeans. A chai to begin each morning became the norm and daily showers were replaced with morning swims in the sea. When the blue skies faded into a purple haze we sat with our hot chips and fizzie drinks and watched the tide grow higher, singing and dancing on the grass to The Beatles and even got people in the caravan park to sing along with us.

The morning following our final sun set dance was just as brilliant, market after market - healing stones, jewelery and so many more treats were found where we were staying, and just a few hours away in Bellingen, was their annual Winter Music Festival. Vintage and second-hand stalls were set up on the streets which were also full vegan and vegetarian options to eat. Sugar cane juices, the giant "Bello" bus (see video below), and all of the little things made such a beautiful day.

The trip ended in Sydney, where, with fortunate timing, I was able to see the Frida Khalo and Diego Rivera exhibition in the New South Wales Art Gallery. The exhibition showed artworks by the two artists along with video footage and stunning and iconic photographs of Frida.

Australia treated me well, and will always have my heart. Watch the video below and have a look at my YouTube for similar content!
