Here's a series of quotes from the people around me and poems written in moments of clarity. My poetry pays no attention to technical skill and techniques, but instead focuses on capturing a feeling that naturally forms into poetry. Found in the notes of my iPhone and in the darkest reaches of my laptop's documents folder... take from it what you will. I'm falling in love with the big wide world, and these are the sentiments that sustain me.
The
universe turns up its next cosmic surprise,
like a silver stone washing itself
up on a beach.
“People
take photos because they like what they see.”
-mum
“You
don’t have to
chase things. They’ll come
to you. Just have fun.”
-mum
You’re
an angel,
he said.
She
turns it over and over on her tongue like it’s
a cool, smooth stone.
It’s
like my body is a conduit for the breath.
The
breath is not inside me; the breath is not a by-product of my mechanical existence.
My
heart pumps blood and my organs digest, but the breath, it flows through
me.
It’s
not just the filling and emptying of the lungs.
It’s
the filling and emptying of my soul, completely, and it lifts me
by the chest into a swooping dreamlike circle where there is
only darkness and the rise and fall of each inhalation and exhalation.
I am
full of a golden, bright substance that leaves me, eyes fluttering open,
like I’ve just
woken from a good dream.

You’re
so
like
your
Dad,
they’d
say
And
then I grew up,
And
so did he.
It
was only as midnight at the age of twenty, one night,
When
I chose writing over sleep,
That
I recalled the nights I’d
get up for water,
And he’d
be out there drawing.
-dad
You’re
a constellation of miracles that
have collided in the space of one person.
