The Summer Diaries is a series of photo journal/diary entries from my 2018 Summer trip in Europe and South East Asia. Click here to read the previous entry.
The train to Seville was easy. I slept on Seb's shoulder for most of the trip. Once in Seville, we walked to his apartment which was a much longer and hotter journey than Seb had remembered. Turns out Seville is one of the hottest places in Europe, and we were there during a heat wave. Once in the apartment, we set up Connect Four in the lounge room and watched the sun create shadows over the floor.

We spent other days walking through the small brick streets of Seville. It was as if we were in a film; watching nuns walk around through picturesque lanes decorated with the Spanish flag. We walked to Las Setas, also known as 'the mushrooms'. They made for great photos, but the heat had conquered us and we didn't go up to see the view.
We also visited the Alcázar which was so stunning, so beautiful. It is the oldest royal palace to still be in use today; the royal family uses the top floors. Everything was so grand, so spectacular. The buildings were glowing in the sun.
From Seville, we went to Granada, where Seb's grandparents live. They were so welcoming, and made us so much food which was a change from the 2-euro food that we had been eating by ourselves. We sat outside and drank beer with his grandfather, Antonio, who showed us his homemade smoking device; a peg with pins nailed inside which apparently act as a filter. But don't smoke kids. The animals there were so sweet. Blanca was Seb's childhood dog that his family left with his grandfather when they moved abroad. The marmalade cat was slightly cross eyed and very comical. Peggy, a white toy poodle was more than just a dog. She understood everything that Antonio said to her (in Spanish).
