Dear June

Written by Eva Barnsley.

'You've got to take the bitter with the sweet', June's moto. I am grateful for the new people I have met, new experiences that I have had and the power of love.

'Dear June' will be the last post on AAE until August as I am traveling to Europe, leaving tonight!

Skirts - I bought three skirts from the sale rack of a local tailor and have begun to live in skirts. I ripped one on the first day wearing it (don't drive a motorbike in short skirts), but the two maxi dresses have been a great addition to my summer wardrobe.

Halter Necks - Besdenn (@besdenn) recently sent me some really sweet clothes. My most worn has been a yellow daisy printed button up halter top, which I have been wearing frequently.

Yellow - Speaking of yellow, it's been a common colour for me. My motorbike, helmet, favourite top...

Glitter nail polish - Last month, I had fake nails which did some damage to my natural nails. To strengthen them, I started painting them with clear nail polish until I found a nail strengthening polish, "Disco Ball", very subtle and really sweet.

Vintage Sunglasses - I couldn't choose which colour I wanted when I found these vintage oval sunglasses that have definitely been growing in popularity recently. I settled for a red and purple pair, and they're pretty fun. (Found some photos on Amazon)

The Keepers (2017) - Another crime documentary, I know, but 'The Keeper's' was very encapsulating and I binged the series very quickly. The series follows an unsolved murder from 1970 of the run at a highschool in Baltimore.

The Craft (1996) - So, it's not the best script, nor the best acting... or storyline, BUT, The Craft sucked me in. The witchcraft, the mise-en-scene, now that's what I was digging. This is a fun movie to watch, especially with your friends.

Keith Richards: Under the Influence (2015) - Unlike most documentaries that feature Keith Richards, Under the Influence doesn't delve into his drug addictions and other tragedies of his life, but solely on the music. From his own musical influences, right up to the making of his first solo album in over 20 years, 'Influence'.

Now More Than Ever: The History of Chicago (2016) - Band documentaries are by far, my favourite educational entertainment. This documentary was follows Chicago's five decade long musical career, beginning in 1967.

Casting Jonbenet (2017) - A cinematic masterpiece, the inception is unreal. The documentary portrays real life actors in their casting of characters involved in the true 1996 murder case on JonBenet Ramsey.

Making Sense of the Sixties - I found this video on my YouTube recommended list, which I rarely use but was glad that I did when I watched this video that documents the origins of American counterculture.

Botanical Gardens - Seb and I bid our farewells to the Hanoi Botanical Gardens last weekend, lying on a tapestry with music and good company for hours. Being surrounded by nature truly is a mood booster.

Getting film developed -  The anticipation of the film developing process, waiting to see what photos have been sitting inside of that camera. Here are a few of my recent shots:

Dharma Bums, Jack Kerouac, 1958 - I was never able to get into 'On The Road' by Kerouac, and had a fake printed copy of Dharma Bums sitting on my desk for years. One day at a book fair, I found an old, original copy of the novel and read it in just 5 days (a record for me, I'm a slow reader). The story made me excited to hike, and is incredibly nostalgic. Set in 1955, it reveals the beginnings of American counterculture.
